SEO Consultant Hamburg: SEO expert & specialistGet found –and win customers.
I’m Hamed Farhadian, an SEO consultant based in Hamburg, Germany. Since 2013 my German page has ranked on page 1 of Google for “SEO-Experte Hamburg”, often in first place. Together with my team at SEOeffekt I help companies get found on Google and in AI search – and turn that visibility into enquiries and revenue that fit.
What do you get from working with an SEO consultant in Hamburg?
In short: more of the right enquiries, less wasted budget and full clarity on what your marketing delivers. I focus on the measures with the biggest impact on revenue – and explain every step.
As an SEO specialist based in Hamburg, I help companies understand their visibility on Google and in AI search, improve it in a targeted way and turn more of their existing visitors into customers.
In a personal SEO check I look at the potential your website or online shop isn’t using yet: pages that aren’t visible enough, visitors who aren’t guided clearly enough, or traffic that produces too few enquiries, orders and sales. Afterwards you know which SEO and conversion levers make sense for your site – and which don’t.

Get advice from an SEO consultant in Hamburg
Looking for an SEO consultant in Hamburg who makes you easier to find on Google and in AI search, with a clear strategy and focused search engine optimisation? Then let’s talk. In a free initial call we look at your website together, and you get an honest assessment of which levers will work first for you. Three things are at the heart of it:
- A focus on revenue and the levers that matter
- Fast results and a noticeable impact
- From chaos to a clear strategy
My clients value seeing visible results quickly. Instead of waiting months for the first wins, I rely on efficient processes and quick wins – small changes with a big effect.
Focus on revenue
I look for the levers that really matter for your website. Instead of endless to-do lists, I concentrate on exactly the measures with the biggest impact on your revenue. A ranking that brings no enquiries isn’t a success – however good it looks in a report.
Fast results
My aim is the biggest possible impact in the shortest possible time. I won’t waste your time or your budget. That’s why quick wins come first: errors that are costing you visibility today, and pages that are already close to the top. You see early on that the investment pays off. I admit it: I like speed.
Clear priorities
I turn SEO chaos into a clear, actionable strategy. You see exactly which steps are needed in which order to get quick wins and grow sustainably. You always know what is happening, why, and what it achieved.

More than just SEO: the benefits of working with an SEO consultant in Hamburg
Understanding SEO and applying it well is one of the most important keys to successful online marketing. But the path is often unclear: tools show hundreds of warnings, reports are full of charts, and you still don’t know what to do next. I bring experience from more than 300 client projects since 1999 – and turn it into a clear order of priorities for your website.
Get found on Google faster
I make sure your business is found exactly where your customers are searching: in Google’s organic results, in the local map pack, and in answers from AI search tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity. That gives you a head start on your competitors.
Win new customers on autopilot
Your website becomes a salesperson who works around the clock and never takes a holiday. It brings you a steady stream of enquiries from people who are already looking for your solution. Your marketing works for you, not the other way round.
Move faster than the competition
I prepare your content so that Google can use it in AI Overviews – the AI summaries above the search results – and so that AI search tools cite you as a source. If you’re visible there early, people notice you before your competitors do.
Cut marketing costs with SEO
Instead of putting all your money into Google Ads, I build lasting organic traffic. Organic clicks don’t cost anything per click. HostPress, for example, saved around €10,000 a month in ad spend this way – see the HostPress case study.
Benefit from an experienced SEO consultant
You benefit directly from my experience across more than 300 client projects. I know which levers actually work in practice and which only look good on conference slides.
Be ready for the future
I build a solid foundation: a clean technical set-up, clear content and real evidence. That pays off on Google and in AI search at the same time, and brings you visitors who fit your offer for the long term.

What you should know about SEO
Before we get into measures and tools, there are four things you should know about search engine optimisation. They explain why some websites stay at the top for years while others make no progress despite a lot of effort.
SEO means optimisation, not manipulation
SEO is often seen as an attempt to trick Google. That doesn’t work – at least not for long. Google wants to show its users the best result, so it favours pages that offer real value. Good SEO makes sure your page is that best result, and that Google recognises it. Google spells out what it doesn’t want in its spam policies.
SEO isn’t just tech – it’s a lot of content
Google evaluates a wide range of signals for every search and uses several ranking systems, which it describes in its own guide to ranking systems. The technical set-up is the foundation that lets Google read your page properly. Whether you then rank is decided mainly by your content: does it answer the searcher’s question better, more completely and more credibly than the others?
Your competitors are already doing SEO
If you don’t keep an eye on your rankings, you’re handing potential – and ultimately hard cash – to your competitors. Visibility doesn’t happen by chance. It’s the result of work your competitors may already be doing, and every week you wait widens their lead.
There’s a reason so many SEO experts are based in Hamburg
Hamburg is one of Europe’s most important media hubs. It is home not only to major publishers and media groups, but also to many creative SEO agencies and SEO specialists. Why that’s an advantage for you is explained in the next section: Why SEO from Hamburg?
Why SEO from Hamburg: found locally, successful nationwide
Hamburg is Germany’s second-largest city and a major business location. Media play a central role here: numerous media companies, advertising and SEO agencies and online marketing specialists are based in the city. Hamburg’s digital scene has a strong reputation far beyond the city limits, and alongside the big publishing houses you’ll find plenty of founders and start-ups.
Search Google for “SEO Hamburg” and you’ll quickly see how competitive the topic is: agencies, freelancers and consultants all compete for the top spots. That tells you two things. Businesses in the Hanseatic city understand how important search engine optimisation is – and they are actively looking for someone to help. It’s no coincidence that Hamburg is often called Germany’s “SEO capital”.
For you, that means:
- Get found locally: If you want customers in Hamburg, you need someone who understands local search. I show you how to rank for “service + Hamburg” – just as I do for “SEO-Experte Hamburg”.
- Succeed across German-speaking markets: Many companies look for their SEO expert in Hamburg even though they aren’t based here. For businesses in Berlin, Cologne, Munich, Austria or Switzerland, working with an SEO consultant from Hamburg is completely normal. Video calls, shared dashboards and clear processes make remote work just as efficient as meeting in person.
As an SEO consultant in Hamburg I’m available to local businesses here – including in person at my office – and I also work with companies across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, as well as international teams targeting German-speaking markets.
Want to see where you stand before we talk? Start with the SEO Compass: enter your address, answer a few short questions and within a few minutes you see where your biggest levers are. For a detailed, personal review, request an SEO check.
SEO Hamburg case study: how this website became a customer magnet
On this page I tell you a lot about SEO in Hamburg. So let’s take this very page as an example. Did you search for an SEO expert in Hamburg? Then you probably found my German page near the top of Google. That’s exactly how search engine optimisation works in practice.
You create content that is useful and genuinely helpful for the searches your target group makes. The higher you appear in the results and the more helpful your content is, the more likely your target group is to land on your website – and to send an enquiry or buy straight away.

Since 2013 my German page has ranked on page 1 of Google for “SEO-Experte Hamburg”, often in first place. I did nothing different from what I do for clients: find out what my target group searches for, answer the question better than anyone else, keep the technical side clean – and keep at it. This approach doesn’t only work for me as an SEO expert in Hamburg, as my case studies show. It works for any service or product people search for online – locally in one city (local SEO) as well as nationally or internationally.

As an SEO specialist, I can see where a website needs work and show you exactly which measures will improve your rankings as quickly as possible. For new and small websites in particular, it pays to bring in an SEO expert for the basic optimisation. And because Google keeps developing its algorithm, you need to keep fine-tuning: technical SEO, page speed and content have to meet Google’s standards tomorrow as well as today. I’ve helped many websites climb the rankings and can spare you a lot of trial and error – time you’re better off spending on your core business.
Some examples from my projects:
| Client | Starting point | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Schulte-Ufer | online shop for cookware | shop revenue tripled |
| HostPress | high Google Ads spend | 245% more visitors from Google in under 6 months, around €10,000 less ad spend per month |
| Hansemakler | new website, few enquiries | first qualified enquiry from Google after 6 weeks |
| Trommelschläger | B2B niche with low search volume | more B2B enquiries that fit |
By the way: this website has just moved too – away from WordPress to a fast, static system that Google and AI systems can read in full. How to run a relaunch like that without losing rankings is covered in the section on website relaunches.
SEO checklist: the key ranking factors at a glance
Want to know which levers you can pull? Ranking factors are the characteristics Google uses to decide how high a page appears for a search. I used to summarise the most important ones on an SEO poster. Today you’ll find them in more detail and more up to date in my guide to Google ranking factors.
The main groups at a glance:
- Technical SEO: Can Google crawl, index and quickly serve your page? That includes page speed, mobile display, a secure connection and clean indexing without duplicate content.
- Content: Does your page answer the question behind the search better than others – completely, clearly and with evidence?
- Structure: Are page titles, headings, URLs and internal links set up so that Google clearly understands the topic of each page?
- Authority: Do other trustworthy websites recommend your page through links and mentions?
- User signals and trust: Do visitors find what they’re looking for? Are there genuine reviews, a legal notice and clear contact details?
Enter your address in the SEO Compass, and within a few minutes you see where your biggest levers are on these points. If you’d rather have a personal assessment, I’ll review your website myself in an SEO check and tell you which three points to tackle first.
The basics of search engine optimisation (SEO)
If you know how search engines work, you make better decisions – even when a professional handles the implementation. Here are the basics in brief.
An SEO consultant from Hamburg explains: what is search engine optimisation?
SEO stands for search engine optimisation. It covers everything that helps a website appear higher in the unpaid results of search engines such as Google. SEO is a discipline of its own within online marketing and is often considered the premier discipline of search engine marketing (SEM).
Unlike paid search advertising (SEA – on Google, that’s Google Ads), you don’t pay for each click with SEO. You build natural, organic reach that lasts and keeps bringing in new enquiries for months and years. Measured against the effort, the return on investment (ROI) – the ratio of revenue to cost – is often especially high.
How does a search engine work?
A search engine works in three steps:
- Crawling: Programs called crawlers visit websites and follow their links.
- Indexing: The content they find is read, understood and stored in a huge directory – the index.
- Ranking: For every search, the search engine sorts the matching pages from the index by relevance.
Relevant means whatever answers the searcher’s question best – technically sound, strong in content and recommended by other sites. Google explains the details itself in its SEO starter guide.
Attract new customers with SEO – automatically and for the long term
When a page ranks well on Google, it keeps bringing you new enquiries – for months and often for years. People come to you at exactly the moment they’re looking for a solution, and they buy or book with you rather than with the competition.
If you want to be found online without paying for advertising forever, there’s no way around SEO. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a local service provider in Cologne, a mid-sized company in Berlin, an international business headquartered in Hamburg or a pure online shop. SEO matters to anyone who wants to become less dependent on paid advertising over time.
I’ve been online since 1999 and have worked on more than 300 client projects with very different companies. Together, my clients have generated €80 million in additional revenue over that time.
SEO now includes GEO: optimising for AI search
Search engine optimisation keeps evolving. The biggest development of recent years is generative engine optimisation (GEO). GEO is optimisation for AI search tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. These systems answer questions directly and cite sources as they do. GEO makes sure your website is one of those sources.
The good news: GEO builds on the same foundations as SEO. A readable technical set-up, clear content, unambiguous information about who you are, and real evidence help on Google and in AI search at the same time. A good SEO consultant today has to understand how these new search environments work so that your content shows up there too. More on this on my GEO expert page and in the comparison GEO vs. SEO.
How an SEO consultant in Hamburg delivers lasting ranking improvements
Is it enough to repeat a keyword as often as possible to reach first place? No. Reality is more complex – and that’s exactly where I support you as an SEO consultant in Hamburg.
Keywords matter, but they’re only one building block
Keywords are often the first thing people mention when it comes to SEO, and they are an essential part of it. But they’re not the only part. Even though terms like “SEO Hamburg” naturally appear on my pages, many other factors decide your ranking. On top of that, Google adjusts its algorithm constantly and regularly announces larger updates, which shifts the weight of individual factors. A good SEO consultant knows these changes and reacts before they hurt you.
See Google as your quality manager
Google doesn’t want to annoy website owners, nor does it want to make SEO consultants rich. Google wants to show its users the best results at the top. An SEO consultant helps you get recognised by Google as the best result – and what counts most there is quality.
Instead of working against Google, think of Google as a helpful quality manager. As soon as your page is good enough to be at the top, it gets rewarded. And whoever is found first usually wins the customer first. Google openly describes what it considers helpful content in its guide to creating helpful, reliable, people-first content.
Stay away from tricks
The algorithm recognises short-term tricks that don’t serve users. Unfortunately, some providers still rely on them. Manipulation like this helps briefly at best. Then comes the boomerang: ranking losses that can be very painful. Instead of position 3 you suddenly find yourself on page 9 – or you can’t be found at all. There’s a reason Google’s results today are largely free of spam. That’s why I only use measures that will still work five years from now.
Measure instead of hoping

If you track your rankings in Google Search Console and a rank tracker, you see early on what works and what doesn’t. With me, you can always see which page ranks where for which term – and which enquiries result from it. I summarise the factors Google weighs most heavily in my guide to Google ranking factors.
That’s how I work towards getting you to the top of Google – or back there – quickly and safely, with measures that translate directly into more revenue.
Why work with Hamed Farhadian, SEO consultant in Hamburg
For a long time now, it hasn’t been enough to put a pretty website online and hope for a rush of customers. A beautiful design has never guaranteed visibility on Google. A website only fulfils its purpose once it’s found organically.
As an SEO consultant in Hamburg, I use professional search engine optimisation to make sure your website appears near the top of the results. Only then does it start working for you: it brings in visitors and ideally turns them into paying customers. If you invest in SEO, you benefit from a steady flow of visitors, earn more trust from your target group, become less dependent on outbound sales and grow your revenue sustainably.
Three effects are at the centre of it:
1. More visibility on Google & in AI search
A top position on Google as the decisive edge over the competition
Whether in Hamburg, Berlin or Cologne, people everywhere search Google for information, providers and solutions. In Germany, Google is by far the most widely used search engine. For businesses, it’s crucial to appear on page 1 for the relevant searches – and as close to the top as possible.

You are visible as soon as your website appears anywhere on page 1. But what decides the competition is the top few positions, because that’s where most of the clicks go. Further down, many searchers don’t even notice you. Add AI search to the mix: AI Overviews and answers from ChatGPT or Perplexity only cite a handful of sources. If you’re not among them, you’re out of the running before anyone clicks.
An SEO consultant makes sure your website becomes visible for your industry’s search terms and appears among the top results. It’s not unusual for companies with top rankings to struggle to keep up with enquiries, while similar businesses in the same industry wonder why demand is falling. The difference often isn’t the offer – it’s the visibility.
If people can’t find you online, for many customers you don’t exist.
2. Winning new customers online on autopilot
Most buying decisions start with a search
Companies that want to win customers online can’t ignore SEO. When your WordPress website, your B2B website or your online shop ranks at the top for the right terms, you get a steady stream of potential customers who discover your offer on their own.
You achieve a high conversion rate – a high share of visitors who get in touch or buy – by offering visitors exactly the solution they’re looking for. Your advantage: anyone who reaches you through a search already has a specific (buying) intent that your offer can meet. Clean, well-founded SEO – for example with SEOrocket – therefore saves you time, money and energy – and means you need to invest far less in sales and cold outreach.
In this video (in German) I explain the five areas to focus on to turn website visitors into happy customers:

So don’t think of SEO as a cost but as an investment in a long-term customer acquisition strategy. On a well-optimised page, visitors find what they’re looking for and stay longer. Google takes that as a sign of relevance and rewards the page with more visibility. That increases the chance of conversions such as newsletter sign-ups, appointment requests or purchases. How to turn that into even more enquiries is covered on my conversion optimisation page.
3. Better reputation & more user trust
Putting users first builds trust and a better reputation
When you optimise your website for search engines, you are essentially making the visit as useful and pleasant as possible for potential customers. Ideally, visitors find exactly what they came for. To get there, your website should outperform the competition visually, in content, in language, in structure and technically.

Websites that rank near the top of Google therefore enjoy a better reputation. That comes from people’s high satisfaction with Google and their trust in its results: a top position works like a recommendation. At the same time, an optimised website is faster and easier to use – so it’s not only Google that likes your site, but your audience too. A ranking among the first results gives you instant expert status.
The same applies even more strongly in AI search: when ChatGPT or Perplexity cite your company as a source, some of the trust in the answer transfers to you.

How I support you as an SEO consultant in Hamburg – in many situations
Over many years as an SEO consultant with my own agency, I’ve helped companies succeed in very different situations. These five come up most often:
- SEO for a new website or online shop
- SEO during a website relaunch
- SEO after a traffic drop
- SEO when previous efforts haven’t worked
- SEO and efficient Google Ads
SEO for your new website or online shop
As your SEO consultant, I support you in building a new website that is search-engine-optimised from day one. Many clients assume the web developer, web designer or advertising agency will take care of SEO along the way, and file the whole topic under “technical”. That’s a big mistake: you end up with a beautiful website your target group can’t find. What use is the finest shop if no one can find the door?
That’s why SEO belongs at the start. Before the first page is designed, it should be clear:
- which terms your customers search for,
- which subpages are needed for which topics,
- where the most important terms need to appear,
- how the navigation and URL structure will be built.
A good SEO consultant supports designers, developers and copywriters from the outset in building a search-engine-optimised website. The goal: to appear on page 1 of Google for your most important search terms, so your target group finds you.
By the way, in my podcast “Marketing zu Mittag” I talk about how to find good keywords for your business (in German):
If a new website is built without SEO knowledge, large parts of it often have to be improved or restructured later. So if you’re planning a new website, bring an SEO consultant on board right from the start. It saves you the extra time and cost – and your new site can bring in enquiries from day one.
SEO during a website relaunch
As your SEO consultant, I guide you and your team through a safe relaunch of an existing website. A relaunch is the riskiest moment for your rankings. The aim is to keep your existing rankings through the switch and to adapt the new site, both technically and in content, to what Google needs.
All too often, companies lose a large part of their visibility after launching a new website, even though they’ve invested many thousands of euros. The usual cause is missing or incorrect redirects from old to new addresses. Responsibility for indexability was left to the developer – or, in the worst case, to Google itself. That’s why experienced agencies and web designers always bring in an SEO consultant before replacing an existing website.
This is how I safeguard a relaunch:
- Inventory: Every old URL with clicks, impressions and backlinks is recorded.
- Redirect plan: Every old address gets a clear destination – a 301 redirect to the matching new page, or a deliberate 410 status if the content is being removed.
- Content and technical checks: Titles, headings, internal links and structured data are tested before launch.
- Monitoring after launch: Rankings, error pages and indexing are watched closely in the first weeks.
In this video (in German), Hamburg estate agent Alexander Kofanow talks about his experience of working with me:

In this LinkedIn post (in German) I explain what an ill-considered relaunch can lead to:
This website moved in exactly the way described here. You’ll find a detailed walkthrough in my website relaunch guide.
SEO after a sudden traffic drop and ranking losses
As your SEO consultant, I help when you suddenly lose rankings or your visitor numbers collapse. When traffic – and with it revenue – drops abruptly, every day counts. One cause can be a Google penalty. Penalties happen when Google classifies a measure as questionable or manipulative, even if there was no bad intent behind it. Other common causes are a major Google update, technical errors after a website update, or indexing that was blocked by accident.

An example: out of the box, WordPress websites aren’t really optimised for search engines. Content in the footer or sidebars that appears on every blog post can be treated by Google as duplicate content. In unfavourable cases that looks like an attempt at manipulation, and visibility drops.
Sometimes competitors even try to damage your rankings by pointing masses of spam backlinks at your website. These attacks are called “negative SEO”. Here too, an SEO consultant helps you spot the attacks, neutralise harmful links and protect your visibility.
I find the cause, prioritise the countermeasures and see the recovery through until your visibility – and your site’s reputation – are restored.
SEO when previous efforts haven’t paid off
As your SEO consultant, I support you when previous measures haven’t delivered the results you wanted. For many website owners, SEO is not an unfamiliar term. There are countless ways to learn SEO yourself – YouTube tutorials, blogs, online courses.
The problem: with so much information, it’s easy to miss the wood for the trees. Many claims contradict each other or are simply out of date. As a non-specialist, you can hardly tell which are true and which achieve nothing. Getting the implementation wrong can also do damage: in the end you’ve invested a lot of time and may even risk losing rankings.
What matters is doing the right things the right way – and in a well-thought-out order. I show you where the weak spots are, which measures were missing and what you can skip. No black box: you see every step and understand why we take it.
SEO alongside profitable Google Ads
As your SEO consultant, I help you cut your ad costs or run your ads more efficiently. SEA (search engine advertising) is advertising you pay for – on Google, the programme is called Google Ads. Your website appears as an ad as soon as someone enters a keyword you’ve chosen, and you pay for every click. Depending on the industry, a single click can cost tens of euros. That adds up quickly.

For companies already investing in paid advertising, SEO is particularly worthwhile. SEO and ads complement each other well:
- Use proven terms: Terms that demonstrably bring purchases or enquiries through ads are ideal SEO targets. The investment then pays off especially quickly.
- Lower costs: If you’re found organically, you can save ad budget.
- Better pages: Optimised landing pages often improve your ads’ Quality Score and therefore your cost per click. A welcome side effect is a higher conversion rate, because the page has become more appealing to your audience.
- Double presence: An ad and an organic result together significantly increase your visibility.
Worth knowing: with SEA, you only stay at the top for as long as you pay. When the campaign ends, the visibility is gone. SEA is therefore more of an ongoing advertising expense, while good SEO is an investment that keeps working. Then there’s trust: many users would rather click an organic result than an ad. And people who trust a company are more easily converted from visitors into customers.
In my podcast “Marketing zu Mittag” I talk about how customer acquisition with paid advertising can work (in German):
Even so, I often recommend combining SEO and SEA, because different strategies can be pursued on the basis of the same search terms, creating real synergies. You can read how I set up campaigns on my page as a Google Ads expert in Hamburg.
Proven SEO measures and services from Hamed Farhadian, SEO consultant in Hamburg
What does it take for you to rank among the top results on Google for your most important search terms? That question is at the heart of my work. In this section I explain which areas of SEO matter and which services I offer as your SEO consultant. Not every website needs everything – the audit shows where your biggest lever lies.
- SEO audit: spotting potential
- Keyword research: finding the right terms
- Keyword optimisation: improving the copy
- Technical on-page SEO
- Site architecture
- Mobile SEO
- Local SEO
- Off-page SEO
- SEO content
- GEO: optimising for AI search
- Ongoing SEO service
- SEO workshops
SEO audit: understand where you stand and where you want to go
Good search engine optimisation starts with an honest look at the current state. In this phase I answer questions such as:
- Who is your target group?
- What does your target group need, and what does it search for?
- Which terms do you rank for today, and in which positions?
- What are your competitors doing better?
- How strong is your domain’s authority, measured by its links?
- Which technical weaknesses are holding you back?
- How good is your copy?
After the audit we define the target state: a clear goal and a roadmap to get there. To do that, an SEO consultant needs to understand exactly where to start on your website. That differs from case to case, because ranking factors carry different weight for every search term. You can get a first impression for free with my SEO Compass, and a detailed assessment in a personal SEO check.
Keyword research: discover how your customers really search
After the audit, the focus shifts to search terms, or keywords: the words and questions people type into Google or an AI search tool. Using various tools and databases, I research terms and choose the right ones. Besides relevance, three values count:
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Search volume (SV) | how often a term is searched per month |
| Keyword difficulty (KD) | how competitive a term is |
| Cost per click (CPC) | what a click costs in Google Ads – a good indicator of commercial value |

Going into fierce competition head-on usually has slim chances of success. With a well-thought-out keyword strategy, though, you find terms that have enough search volume and haven’t been taken by competitors yet. That way even smaller companies can benefit from SEO with manageable effort and hold their own against the big players.
Choosing keywords matters so much because they form the basis for the structure and content of your website. I explain how I go about it in this LinkedIn post (in German):
You’ll find more tips and tools in my guide to keyword research.
Keyword optimisation: putting the right words in the right places
Placing keywords in titles, headings and body copy gives Google an important signal about what a page is about. But be careful: simply stringing keywords together won’t produce good rankings. If a text is weak and gives readers nothing, Google notices.
That’s why a good SEO consultant also needs to be a good SEO copywriter who puts your message across clearly and without errors. Rules of thumb about ideal text length circulate in the SEO scene – 800 to 1,300 words per page, for example. That’s no recipe for first place, though. The right length depends on the search term: some questions can be answered in 300 words, others need an in-depth guide like this page. Your homepage can be optimised for a search term too.
What doesn’t impress Google or your visitors is the subject of this post (in German):
Technical on-page SEO: making sure Google understands everything
Indexability plays a big role in search engine optimisation. Technical optimisation makes sure Google’s crawlers can easily read the content of your website. Google’s algorithm is a learning system that is fed data and prepares it for users. If your website isn’t technically sound, you risk information being only partly understood and barely taken into account in rankings.

A good SEO consultant optimises the source code and structures the content so that Google understands it:
- clean indexing without duplicate content,
- meaningful page titles and meta descriptions,
- fast loading times and good Core Web Vitals (Google’s metrics for loading speed and usability),
- structured data that clearly describes people, services and questions,
- full content in the HTML, so AI systems can read everything too.

It’s not only the technical side that counts, but also the language: which keyword is in the title, and does the description make people want to click? This interplay of tech and marketing is exactly what makes SEO hard for many website owners. You’ll find practical examples in my guide to meta descriptions and tips on page speed in my guide to Google PageSpeed Insights.
Site architecture: a structure that makes sense
Another important part of search engine optimisation is site architecture: the form, order and hierarchy of your content. An SEO consultant has to think analytically and organise content around users. That includes navigation, link structure, the logic of the headings and a clear URL structure.
Google needs structure to weigh and understand content. That matters more than ever, because people increasingly search in full questions and expect direct answers. This is made possible by large language models (LLMs), which Google and AI search tools use to understand the intent behind a question. A good SEO consultant therefore doesn’t just think technically, but also has a feel for semantics and for the language your customers use. That’s how you create content these models can process well.
Mobile SEO – because not only people in Hamburg live on their smartphones
Mobile SEO is a must for every website today. The way we find information has changed dramatically: a large share of searches happens on smartphones. So it’s not just the desktop view that counts, but above all the mobile view.

Google evaluates websites based on their mobile version – this is called mobile-first indexing. If content that appears on desktop is missing on mobile, Google can’t take it into account. The usability of the mobile view is just as important.

A good mobile view rarely happens by itself – it has to be designed actively. That means intuitive navigation, large tap targets, fast loading times, responsive design and content that works on a small screen.
Local SEO – so you get found at the top in your region, just like I do in Hamburg
Search behaviour has changed fundamentally: with smartphones, people increasingly search for products and services right around them. That’s why local SEO keeps getting more important. Local SEO is search engine optimisation for local searches such as “tax adviser Hamburg”, “SEO Hamburg” or “dentist near me”.

For small and local businesses, local SEO is especially important. Whether you’re found when someone nearby searches for your service can make the difference between success and failure. Listings in business directories and on official city portals also strengthen your visibility in the region.
One method that works very well is a dedicated city page on your website. Think of it like the German version of this page: it targets the combination of service and city – in my case “SEO-Experte” as the keyword and “Hamburg” as the city. Here are five reasons why local SEO matters so much today:
Changing search behaviour
Many people search for local providers on mobile, often on the go and with a specific intent. Local SEO makes sure your business is clearly visible in the local results and on the map when someone nearby searches for your products or services.
Google Business Profile
Optimising your Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is a crucial part of local SEO. A complete, up-to-date profile improves your visibility in local results and provides key information such as opening hours, location, photos and customer reviews. Google explains how to set up your profile in its Business Profile help centre.

Trust and credibility
Local search results often enjoy particularly high trust. If your business ranks well there, it signals reliability – a provider from the neighbourhood that people can call or visit.
Competitive advantage
Local businesses usually compete with other providers close by. A targeted local SEO strategy helps you stand out and makes sure customers find you first.
Customer reviews
Genuine customer reviews feed into local visibility and influence potential customers’ decisions. Good reviews establish your business as a trustworthy option in your region.
All in all, local SEO is indispensable for local businesses that want to strengthen their visibility, reach and customer trust. You can read how I approach it on my local SEO page.
Off-page SEO – so Google knows you’re a real authority
Ever since Google search has existed, a domain’s authority – its good reputation – has played a major role. What matters is how many and, above all, which websites link to yours – links known as backlinks. To Google, backlinks are like recommendations: if established, trustworthy websites link to you often, you have more authority and, all else being equal, you rank ahead of your competitors.
In the past you could create or buy backlinks indiscriminately to manipulate your ranking. Thanks to constant improvements to the algorithm, that no longer works – quite the opposite. A good SEO consultant therefore makes sure links are earned naturally and that your link profile is clean and well mixed. They also review the existing profile regularly, because certain types of backlinks can do harm. The last two decades have shown: quality pays off, while sheer quantity can lead to a penalty in the worst case.
For AI search there’s another point: mentions of your brand in trade articles, podcasts, directories and review platforms help AI systems understand who you are and what you stand for – even without a link. There’s more on backlinks further down in the section backlinks increase your website’s authority.
SEO content – publishing content that convinces Google and visitors alike
Content marketing works – very well, in fact – when the content is made for search engines and people from the start. That applies to text as much as to videos, podcasts, infographics, guides or PDFs.
If you factor SEO into content creation, the text becomes more useful for readers. Quality goes up, which helps your rankings and also leaves a strong impression and builds trust with potential customers. Compared with paid social ads or an SEA campaign, good content works for much longer: a campaign is often over after a few days, while a good guide brings in visitors for years.
In this video (in German) I explain the three types of search queries – and what kind of content or page you should create for each:

How long good content lives is shown by my German page about being an SEO expert in Hamburg: it has been found for years – probably by people looking for exactly that. A similar strategy works for almost any keyword.
For content marketing to work, you need editorial experience and copy that is engaging, informative and right for the target group. With my AI content workflow this is much faster than it used to be – with people at the wheel who ensure expertise and tone of voice. I show what that looks like in practice in my guide to creating content with AI.
GEO: optimising for AI search
For ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews to cite you as a source, they have to be able to fetch your content, understand it and consider it trustworthy. That includes:
- not accidentally blocking AI crawlers,
- quotable short answers and clear definitions at the start of a page,
- concrete figures with source and date,
- an unambiguous entity: who are you, what do you do, and where?
My AI tool for SEO and GEO checks where you stand in AI search today. More on the GEO expert page and in my guide How to get visible in ChatGPT.
Ongoing SEO service – so we keep improving and do better than yesterday
Well-designed SEO monitoring is essential if you want to benefit from search engine optimisation over the long term. Of course you can do SEO once and achieve a basic optimisation. But then you risk losing your rankings to competitors over time.

With my ongoing SEO services, my team at SEOeffekt monitors your rankings and your website’s performance and gives you concrete recommendations as soon as something develops in the wrong direction. We closely track which page ranks in which position for which keyword and how that changes over time.
Based on our experience and our own analysis of changes to Google’s algorithm, we continuously spot new potential and develop measures that can be implemented with as little effort as possible. You get a clear system with the key SEO metrics (KPIs) so you can measure success yourself.
Your competitors are working on their visibility too, and only one website can be at the very top. So keep going and see SEO as the ongoing development of your findability. If you want a clear roadmap, SEOrocket is the right place to start: SEOeffekt’s six-module SEO roadmap.
Long-term SEO support – so you always have an SEO expert on your side
My team and I are also happy to take on long-term SEO support and monitoring. At SEOeffekt we handle the entire SEO management from A to Z, with dedicated contacts and regular reporting. You can focus on your core business and still always know what’s happening.
SEO workshops – put the most important concepts into practice fast
For companies with their own marketing department or marketing manager, I offer workshops, webinars and guided optimisation. Your team learns on your own website which levers matter and can then optimise independently. More than 10,000 people have taken part in my webinars and seminars so far.

SEO measures & strategies from an SEO consultant in Hamburg: on-page and off-page
One of the basics of search engine optimisation is the distinction between on-page and off-page measures. You need both to appear at the top of Google for a search term.
| Feature | On-page SEO | Off-page SEO |
|---|---|---|
| Where? | on your own website | outside your website |
| What? | technical set-up, structure, content, keywords | backlinks, mentions, reviews, brand awareness |
| Goal | Google understands what it’s about | Google trusts your website |
| Who controls it? | entirely in your hands | earned through relationships and good content |
On-page SEO
SEO measures on and within your own website
On-page SEO covers the structural, content and technical aspects of your website. Relevant keywords play an important role: they’re worked naturally into the copy and into the key structural elements.

Structural elements include the navigation, the page titles and the headings you use to organise your text. They tell Google immediately what your website and each subpage are about. As soon as someone enters a search, Google draws on this information and sorts the results by relevance. Careful selection and placement of keywords is therefore an essential part of optimisation – as is a clear structure for your website.
The right keyword strategy as the foundation of on-page SEO
Every search term reflects a need: looking for information, a service or a product. For every important need your customers have, you need a page that meets it better than the others.

For a keyword strategy to succeed, you look not just at the keyword itself but also at search volume and competition: how often is the term searched, and how fiercely is it contested? One example is the combination “SEO Hamburg”: it creates a local connection and reaches exactly the people looking for a search engine optimisation expert in Hamburg. Longer queries such as “SEO consulting for online shops in Hamburg” have less search volume but often a clearer intent and less competition.
On-page SEO also means creating content search engines understand
However good your keyword strategy, you still need to describe your offer accurately and present it attractively. Nobody enjoys reading a wall of text that isn’t broken up by subheadings, lists, images or videos.

Too little text or text full of errors doesn’t go down well with Google either. The algorithm then prefers a page that offers more and better information on the topic. Good, error-free content is therefore essential for a good ranking. Neglect it and you risk losing rankings and indirectly sending customers to your competitors. That’s why an SEO consultant needs a sure command of language and solid expertise.
How long should the ideal text be, and what results does the visitor expect for their search? Good pages answer the most important question right at the start and then go into depth. If your website is multilingual, that applies to every language – with separately researched keywords rather than literal translation.
Off-page SEO
SEO measures outside your own website
Alongside on-page optimisation, off-page optimisation is the second big area of SEO. It covers signals that lie outside your website – above all links from other websites, known as backlinks. Mentions on social networks such as LinkedIn, Instagram or Facebook also play a role as “unstructured citations” (mentions without a link).
Backlinks are crucial to how search engines judge the value and reputation of a website. Relevant links on related topics are treated by Google, Bing and other search engines as a recommendation for your content. A professional SEO consultant therefore checks all of your website’s backlinks: do the links lead to the right content, so the recommendation makes sense? How are they set – for example, with which anchor text?
If there are weak spots in your link profile, fixing them is part of the craft. Poor or misdirected backlinks damage your website’s reputation, and Google may treat them as manipulation. Your SEO consultant needs to be able to weigh up exactly which backlinks help you and which harm you.
Backlinks increase your website’s authority
For your website’s reputation, it’s important that new, good backlinks keep coming in. They should be relevant to the topic and point to the right content on your website.
I strongly advise you not to buy backlinks on your own – especially not from cheap offers on freelancer platforms. Many of my clients came to me precisely because they had bought links and were penalised by Google for it.
But backlinks do matter. So what can you do? An experienced SEO consultant develops a strategy with you that earns links naturally, without breaching Google’s guidelines: through content others like to cite, partnerships, PR, guest articles and podcast appearances. A good network helps these links come about. If you also review your own link profile regularly, you give Google good reasons to consider your domain relevant for your search terms. How founders without a big budget can earn good links is covered in my guide to link building for start-ups.

Searched for SEO Hamburg – and found it?

Why does SEO consultant Hamed Farhadian show up so high on Google for SEO in Hamburg?
As you’ve seen, SEO is a complex field made up of many areas: audit, keywords, technical SEO, structure, mobile, local SEO, backlinks, content, GEO and ongoing support. I’ve applied all of these to my own pages. That’s probably why you found me when you searched for SEO in Hamburg or an SEO expert in Hamburg. For “SEO-Experte Hamburg”, my German page has ranked on page 1 since 2013, often in first place.
There’s no trick behind it. The page answers the questions people have when they search for “SEO Hamburg” or “SEO-Experte Hamburg”: What does an SEO expert do? What’s in it for me? How does working together work? What do other clients say? Add to that a clean technical set-up, a well-maintained Google Business Profile, genuine reviews and links from websites that recommend me.
Even though this is only a first look at the approaches and strategies, you’ve probably already noticed while reading how much potential your own website has. An SEO consultant can put all of this into practice for you.
Let’s improve your visibility
As an SEO expert, I start by working out what you actually need. First, I identify the current weak spots of your website or online shop and check what potential there is. Then we define your goals together, and I propose a path that gets you there as quickly as possible.
Sounds good? Then let’s talk. Just fill in the form below and I’ll take a personal look at your website.

SEO consulting in Hamburg: when you want to know what to do
Looking for an SEO consultant because you don’t know what to do? As your SEO consultant, I analyse your website and then show you in a personal meeting which measures will get you more visibility and revenue – in a clear order.
It’s important to me to keep all the relevant areas of SEO in view, so that you as managing director or head of marketing get concrete recommendations. Trust, transparency and working together as equals matter a great deal to me. That’s why I take time at the start to get to know you and your business. It lets me transfer lessons from other projects to yours quickly and reliably.
SEO coaching in Hamburg: when you want to take matters into your own hands
Looking for an SEO coach who helps you take charge of your own SEO? An SEO coach is also a search engine optimisation expert, but works more closely with you because you’re involved in the optimisation yourself. The aim is to give you methods and know-how in a short time so that you can optimise your website yourself in future, or with only a little help. Helping you help yourself, in other words.
Knowledge transfer and sharing experience come first. You also get concrete tasks, of course, and I check how you’ve implemented them. Before the coaching, we analyse together which problem with your website is on your mind. Unlike SEO consulting, the focus here is on targeted training and your own resources. I see myself more as a guide: I give you the tools to solve your problems yourself and then check that the measures have been implemented correctly.
Choose this option if you already have some experience and want to learn the most important current SEO levers, or train your team.
SEO from Hamburg, done for you: when you just want it done
Want someone to implement search engine optimisation for you? For website owners who need help with a specific or very particular SEO problem, pure implementation is often the best route.
My team at SEOeffekt takes over – from a single issue to complete ongoing support, with dedicated contacts and clear results. This option suits you best if you know exactly what you want or need a specific problem fixed.
SEO copywriter in Hamburg: when content is missing
Looking for an SEO copywriter who writes content that gets found? Error-free, to the point and goal-oriented: writing SEO copy is an art in itself. The goals here are “straight to the visitor’s heart” and “near the top of Google”.
My team doesn’t just write and revise pages and blog posts – it also understands the technical side of SEO. Besides a good feel for language and a clear structure, your texts get the right keywords in the right places and a clean heading structure. Since AI search arrived, we also make sure there are quotable short answers and clear definitions at the start of every section.
By the way: we also check existing copy to see whether it has the potential to rank for particular search terms – and what it still lacks.
WordPress SEO in Hamburg: when the tech is holding you back
Looking for an SEO developer to optimise your website technically? Unlike the SEO copywriter, the SEO developer focuses on technical implementation.
A large share of all websites runs on the content management system WordPress, so an SEO consultant needs to know it inside out. I’ve worked with WordPress since 2006 and know what typically holds SEO back: too many plugins, slow themes, duplicate content. A WordPress site can be optimised through changes to the theme or with custom plugins.
As a WordPress expert in Hamburg, I give you SEO and tech under one roof – and if moving to a faster system makes sense, I’ll tell you that too. You’ll find a step-by-step walkthrough in my WordPress SEO guide.
And what about online SEO courses?
Some people don’t want online courses. They want things to get done. I, for example, want to work out four times a week – and my online personal trainer makes sure I do. Our SEO training works in a similar way.
Honestly: there are countless videos about SEO on YouTube. There’s no shortage of knowledge. What business owners and marketing managers need is implementation that is time- and cost-efficient and actually works. It should be fun and teach you a lot along the way – but that isn’t what counts most.

What we hear from clients again and again: they appreciate having someone who answers their questions and makes sure they understand the approach and keep developing it. And they appreciate that we really get to know their business and adapt advice and strategy to it. That’s why I believe pure online courses help fewer and fewer people – and why I focus on consulting, coaching and workshops on your own website.
Which is better: an SEO consultant or an SEO agency?
Why does it always have to be one or the other? With me, you get both under one roof. The choice between an SEO consultant and an SEO agency usually depends on budget, project scope and personal preference: a consultant offers direct access and experience, an agency offers capacity for delivery.
You get the most expertise when you choose a consultant who also runs their own agency and can draw on a strong network. As an SEO consultant and founder of the SEO agency SEOeffekt, I can offer you personal support from me, depending on what you prefer, plus a team in the background who handles delivery. At SEOeffekt, specialists in SEO, GEO, content, tech, web design, project management and ads work on optimising websites and online shops. That way you get an SEO strategy and measures that fit you exactly.
Hamed Farhadian: meet the Hamburg SEO consultant with his own agency
I’ve been online since 1999. After many web projects of my own, friends and acquaintances asked me to build their websites too – and a hobby turned into a profession. Since 2006 I’ve worked with WordPress, Shopify and other systems my clients use to manage their websites. In 2019 I founded my SEO agency SEOeffekt.

I guide you through the marketing maze with my SEO consulting
As an independent consultant, web developer and project manager, I’ve worked with companies from a wide range of industries – from small start-ups in Hamburg to international corporations. As an entrepreneur, I’ve founded several start-ups myself. That’s where my passion for SEO comes from: over the past two decades, hardly any other marketing channel has generated attention for products and services as sustainably and cost-effectively.
Early on, I also experienced first-hand what happens when an agency works as a black box: my website was dropped from Google’s index, and 15,000 visitors a month turned into 500. Since then I’ve made marketing measurable and understandable.

Today my focus is search engine optimisation and AI search. I offer SEO consulting and proven solutions to optimise websites and online shops for better rankings. Depending on your starting point, I take on the role that suits your project. What matters most to me is that my work stays transparent throughout and that success is measurable.
I lead a team of eight. Clients of my SEO agency include HostPress, Ohne-Makler.net, Schulte-Ufer and Panasonic – you’ll find more in my client list. I’m proud that many clients have trusted my team and me for years and recommend us to other companies looking for an SEO consultant in Hamburg.
Questions for an SEO consultant in Hamburg
Updated on · by Hamed Farhadian
What does an SEO consultant do?
An SEO consultant makes sure a website is found on Google and in AI search for the terms its customers actually search for. That means reviewing the technical set-up, content, structure and links, putting the biggest levers in the right order, and measuring whether more of the right enquiries come in.
When is an SEO measure actually good?
When it measurably and lastingly delivers more: better rankings for terms with buying intent, more of the right enquiries, more orders, more revenue. Good SEO is inbound marketing – people come to you because they are looking for a solution and find you as the right option. A measure that only makes a report look nicer is not a good measure.
Who is SEO worth it for?
For any business whose customers search online before they buy or get in touch – from a trade business in Hamburg to an online shop or a B2B company with long decision cycles. It is especially worthwhile if you currently spend a lot on ads. Whether it pays off for you is something we can work out in a free initial call.
Can I do SEO myself?
Yes, you can learn and do a lot yourself. The hard part is choosing and prioritising: which of the many tips are still true, and which measure will make the biggest difference for you? That’s where an experienced eye saves a lot of time. In SEO coaching I show you and your team how it works and review what you implement.
How long does it take to learn SEO?
You can learn the basics – keywords, page titles, structure, internal links and Google Search Console – within a few weeks if you practise on your own website. Real confidence comes after a few months, because only then do you see how Google responds to your changes. It goes faster with guidance: in SEO coaching and my workshops and webinars you learn on your own project rather than on examples.
Do you work with English-speaking companies?
Yes. I work with companies across Germany, Austria and Switzerland and with international teams that want to reach customers in German-speaking markets. Meetings can be in English or German.
How long does SEO take to work?
In many projects we see first improvements within a few weeks – Hansemakler, for example, received its first qualified enquiry from Google after 6 weeks. How fast it goes for you depends on your starting point, your competition and your keywords. I don’t give ranking guarantees: Google decides, and anyone who promises otherwise isn’t being honest.
What does an SEO consultant in Hamburg cost?
It depends on the state of your website, your competition and your goals. After a short conversation you get a clear proposal: a fixed-price package or an individual offer that shows exactly what is included. I’m happy to run a personal SEO check first to understand what you need. You can see what can be included in the overview of my SEO solutions.
SEO consultant or SEO agency – which is better?
Why choose? As founder of the SEO agency SEOeffekt I offer both: me as your contact for strategy and decisions, and a team that handles delivery.
