# HostPress case study: SEO for a B2B hosting provider – More customers from Google – less money on ads.

HostPress is a managed WordPress hosting provider from Saarland, Germany. After launch, new customers came almost exclusively through expensive Google Ads. With keyword research, new content, a clean technical set-up and link building, organic traffic grew by 245% in under 6 months, and HostPress saved around €10,000 a month in ad spend.

## What was the starting point?

After launch, HostPress was barely visible on Google. New customers came almost only through paid ads – and those ate into the margin.

Web hosting is a fiercely competitive market: big providers with large ad budgets dominate the most important search terms. HostPress had no strategy to become visible there organically and win qualified enquiries. Organic means through the unpaid search results, where you don’t pay per click.

The goal was clear: climb as high as possible for terms like “WordPress Hosting Deutschland” (WordPress hosting Germany) – and become less dependent on Google Ads.

## What did we do?

We focused on the levers that matter most to HostPress commercially:

1. **Keyword and competitor research:** Which search terms bring paying customers? And where do competitors leave gaps?
2. **Content:** Existing pages were reworked and a new content strategy was set up to match the target audience’s search intent – what someone actually wants to achieve with their search.
3. **Technical SEO and WordPress:** The website was made technically clean so Google can read it quickly and completely.
4. **Link building:** Relevant links from other websites in the same field strengthened the domain’s authority.

The roadmap came from [SEOrocket](https://www.hamed.de/en/seorocket/). At the same time, the HostPress team built up its own SEO know-how step by step.

## What did it achieve?

SEO became one of HostPress’s main channels for new customers:

| Metric | Result |
|---|---|
| Organic traffic | +245% in under 6 months |
| Google Ads spend | around €10,000 less per month |
| Ranking | #1 for the highly competitive German keyword “Managed WordPress Hosting” |
| Traffic value according to Sistrix | around €100,000 per month |
| Team | in-house SEO know-how, less dependence on service providers |

The domain also reached its target for “WordPress Hosting Deutschland” in under 6 months.

### Marcus Krämer on how we worked together

During my talk at the Social Media Event Saarland, HostPress managing director Marcus Krämer told an audience of around 60 how we met and how I introduced him to SEO step by step. His part starts at around minute 36 (in German).

## What can you take away for your B2B business?

- **Use your ad data.** Keywords that demonstrably bring customers in Google Ads are the best targets for SEO. More on that on my page as a [Google Ads expert](https://www.hamed.de/en/google-ads-expert-hamburg/).
- **Write for search intent, not for the keyword.** Someone looking for hosting wants to compare and understand – the page has to answer exactly those questions.
- **The technical set-up is the foundation.** With WordPress in particular, plugins and themes often slow things down unnoticed. How to fix that is covered in my guide to [fast WordPress hosting](https://www.hamed.de/en/fast-wordpress-hosting/).
- **A few good links beat many bad ones.** Relevant recommendations strengthen your domain; bought links in bulk damage it.

How I help B2B companies win more qualified enquiries is explained on my page about [B2B SEO](https://www.hamed.de/en/b2b-seo/).

For search terms HostPress previously had to pay for with ads, the website now ranked high in the unpaid results. That allowed it to cut around €10,000 a month from its Google Ads spend.

### What is traffic value according to Sistrix?

Sistrix is an SEO tool that estimates what a website’s organic visitors would cost as Google Ads. For HostPress, this value was around €100,000 a month.
