# B2B SEO: search engine optimisation for B2B companies – Found for your solutions – not just your name.

B2B SEO is search engine optimisation for companies that sell to other businesses. Because decision-makers search for solutions rather than company names, I work to get you ranking for the terms your buyers actually use – across the whole buying journey, which often takes months. That way Google can keep your sales pipeline filled with the right enquiries.

## What is B2B SEO – and how is it different from B2C?

B2B SEO (business-to-business SEO) is search engine optimisation for companies whose customers are other companies. The aim isn’t as many visitors as possible, but qualified enquiries from decision-makers who are a good fit for your offer.

The fundamentals are the same as for any SEO: technical SEO, content, structure and links. But the rules of the game in B2B are quite different from selling to consumers (B2C):

| Aspect | B2C | B2B |
|---|---|---|
| Who decides? | usually one person | several people: leadership, the specialist team, procurement, IT |
| Buying journey | minutes to days | weeks to months, often with several research phases |
| Search volume | often high | often low, but very specific |
| Value of an enquiry | fairly low | often high, sometimes a major contract |
| Success measured by | shop sales | qualified enquiries and revenue in the pipeline |

So B2B SEO has to speak the language of specialists, convince several roles and support a long buying journey.

## Why do people only find you by your company name?

Many B2B companies only show up when someone already types their name. That’s branded traffic. But people who don’t know you yet search for their problem or for a solution – that’s non-branded traffic.

If customers can only find you once they already know you, you lose new business every day to competitors who are visible for solution keywords. In B2B, the winner is whoever understands their audience’s search intent and has the best answer for it.

Typical causes:

- service pages built around made-up product names instead of the words buyers actually search for,
- pages like “Home”, “Products” or “Solutions” with no clear topic,
- too many topics on one page, so Google can’t tell what it should rank for.

## How do you support a long buying journey with content?

A B2B decision rarely starts with “buy supplier for X”. Usually someone spots a problem, researches possible solutions and only then compares suppliers. Each stage needs the right content:

| Stage | Typical search | Matching content |
|---|---|---|
| Recognising the problem | “why are our production energy costs rising?” | a guide that explains the problem and its causes |
| Looking for a solution | “industrial heat recovery benefits” | comparisons of approaches, checklists, examples |
| Choosing a supplier | “heat exchanger manufacturer” | a strong service or product page with evidence and a clear way to get in touch |

On top of that, several people have a say. Leadership asks about ROI, the specialist team about technical details, procurement about terms and delivery. Good B2B content answers those questions so your contact can make the case internally.

## How do you find the best B2B keywords?

We stop flying blind. Instead of optimising on gut feeling, we start with a needs analysis, not just a technical audit:

{% bild datei="leistungen/die-seo-bedarfsanalyse-statt-nur-audit.png" alt="Illustration: magnifying glass and key above a shield labelled “GSC-Audit”, representing the SEO needs analysis" breite="halb" rahmen=false /%}

- **Search Console audit:** Google Search Console shows the searches you already appear for. Terms with lots of impressions but few clicks are especially valuable – that’s potential almost within reach.
- **Content check:** thin content – pages with little real value – dilutes your rankings. We rework, merge or remove it.
- **Authority comparison:** we compare the links pointing to your site from other websites (backlinks) with your competitors’. How to earn links that actually count is covered in my guide to [link building for startups and B2B](https://www.hamed.de/en/link-building-for-startups/).
- **Goal setting:** we optimise for measurable goals, such as a set number of qualified enquiries within a fixed period – not for traffic.

For keyword research in general, see my guide to [SEO keyword research](https://www.hamed.de/en/seo-keyword-research/).

## How do you optimise B2B pages for non-branded traffic?

No marketing speak, just plain language. Every page gets a clear focus: one keyword, one intent, one goal.

{% bild datei="leistungen/radikale-keyword-trennung-onpage-kur.png" alt="Illustration: heading hierarchy with H1 and H2, with separate search terms assigned to individual pages" breite="halb" rahmen=false /%}

- **Clear keyword separation:** every key service and product gets its own page, combined with B2B signals – for example “LED panel wholesaler”.
- **Plain language instead of made-up terms:** page titles and main headings say what you offer, in your customers’ words.
- **Structured landing pages:** built around “Who is it for? What are the benefits? What’s the range or service? What’s the next step?”
- **B2B wording:** terms such as “manufacturer”, “supplier”, “wholesale” or “reseller” in the right places tell Google and visitors that you serve business customers.
- **A clean heading hierarchy:** exactly one main heading (H1) per page, with a logical structure underneath.

## How does a click turn into a B2B lead?

A lead is a prospect who gives you their contact details or sends an enquiry. To turn visitors into leads, the page has to meet decision-makers who are ready to buy:

{% bild datei="leistungen/b2b-wording-cro.png" alt="Illustration: the path from a search via a landing page to a business customer’s contact form" breite="halb" rahmen=false /%}

- **Matching message:** whatever the search result or ad promises, the landing page has to deliver straight away.
- **Building trust:** unique selling points, certifications, references and expertise become concrete benefits.
- **Removing friction:** short forms, clear calls to action and several ways to get in touch – phone, form, booking a call – for a logical customer journey.

I go into detail on my page about [conversion optimisation](https://www.hamed.de/en/conversion-optimization/).

## What if technical problems or ranking drops hit?

A technical error can wipe out visibility silently – often sales are the first to notice, when enquiries dry up. I help quickly when rankings suddenly drop, and set up monitoring so it doesn’t happen in the first place:

{% bild datei="leistungen/technischer-notfall-service-monitoring.png" alt="Illustration: a technician repairing a website whose chart is crashing, with warning lights for monitoring" breite="halb" rahmen=false /%}

- **Indexing check:** looking for crawl errors and forgotten “noindex” tags that keep pages out of Google.
- **Redirects and sitemap:** clean redirects after a plugin change or relaunch, so no rankings get lost. More in my guide to a [website relaunch](https://www.hamed.de/en/website-relaunch/).
- **A structure that grows with you:** as your offer grows, so does your site structure – new services get their own pages instead of sub-points on old ones.

## How do you measure B2B SEO success?

Traffic is a poor success metric in B2B. A hundred well-matched decision-makers are worth more than ten thousand random readers. So we measure along the pipeline:

1. **Visibility:** rankings and impressions for the agreed non-branded keywords.
2. **Visitors:** clicks from Google to the pages meant to generate enquiries.
3. **Enquiries:** forms, calls and booked meetings from organic search.
4. **Revenue:** which enquiries turn into proposals and deals? Where possible, we connect the data with your CRM.

## Does AI search matter in B2B?

Yes, and more and more. Many decision-makers now research with ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google AI Overviews: “Which providers of X are there in Germany?” If you’re not named there, you don’t even make the longlist.

The good news: what works for B2B SEO – clear service pages, expertise, evidence and references – also helps in AI search. How to show up in AI answers specifically is covered on my [GEO expert](https://www.hamed.de/en/geo-expert/) page.

## What results are possible in B2B?

Two examples from projects with B2B clients:

| Client | Starting point | Result |
|---|---|---|
| [HostPress](https://www.hamed.de/en/case-studies/hostpress/) | B2B WordPress hosting provider, high Google Ads spend | 245% more visitors from Google in under 6 months, around €10,000 less ad spend per month |
| [Trommelschläger](https://www.hamed.de/en/case-studies/objekteinrichtungen/) | B2B niche with little search volume | more of the right B2B enquiries |

## How do you get started with B2B SEO?

SEO doesn’t work through one-off fixes. It works through diagnosis, priorities and clear levers. That’s why every project starts with a thorough analysis of your website.

- **Focus on revenue:** we work on the keywords and pages that bring in enquiries.
- **Quick impact first:** errors that cost visibility right now, and pages that are already close to the top, come first.
- **From chaos to a clear strategy:** you get a roadmap with a clear order and measurable goals.

## Questions about B2B SEO

### Is SEO worth it in B2B if hardly anyone searches for my terms?

Often that’s exactly when it pays off. In B2B a single enquiry can mean a major contract. A specialist term with only a handful of searches a month is valuable if the right decision-makers are behind them – and competition for such terms is usually lower.

### How long does B2B SEO take to bring in leads?

We often see first improvements in rankings and clicks after a few weeks. It usually takes several months before that turns into a steady flow of enquiries, and your sales cycle comes on top before deals close. That’s why we agree on measurable milestones.

### SEO or Google Ads – which makes more sense in B2B?

Both have their place. Ads bring instant visibility and are great for testing keywords. SEO builds visibility that lasts and lowers your cost per lead over time. More on my page as a [Google Ads expert](https://www.hamed.de/en/google-ads-expert-hamburg/).

### Do we need a blog as a B2B company?

Not necessarily a blog, but content for every stage of the decision: guides for when buyers are researching the problem, comparisons for when they weigh solutions, and strong service pages for when they choose a supplier. What matters more than volume is that every page answers a real question your buyers have.

### What does B2B SEO cost?

It depends on the state of your website, your competition and your goals. After a needs analysis you get a clear proposal. You can see what can be included in the overview of my [SEO solutions](https://www.hamed.de/en/seo-solutions/).
